SWI Industies LLC is a rapidly growing
North American company that specializes in the development of marine
safety products, including the patented Seaview Windshield Insert. The company was founded in 2001 by entrepreneur, Ray Weind after
selling his successful exhibit manufacturing business of 22 years. "I
bought a beautiful new Silverton 42C convertible to enjoy my semi-retirement," explains
Mr. Weind. "It had an upper helm station fully enclosed with canvas and
plastic windows. I soon realized how poor the visibility was during rainy
weather and ocean spray, and how dangerous it was to steer under these
conditions. My only choices were to open the window and get soaked or
have my wife squeegee the plastic windows clean every few minutes."
After failing to find a product in the marketplace to solve
the problem and understanding that many other boat owners were experiencing
the same issue, Mr. Weind began experimenting with various ideas. This
process eventually lead to the development and launch of the Windshield Insert. "In designing the Windshield Insert, it was important the product
was tough and sturdy to ensure it would withstand the elements, yet was
attractive so that it looked like it belonged," added Mr. Weind. "After
installing the first one on my boat I couldn't believe the difference
it made. Not only was my visibility greatly improved in the rain, but
also in dry weather as well. The view was so much clearer and brighter
than looking through plastic."
"It has also made a boat with a single,
upper helm station much more attractive to potential buyers since it
eliminates the huge expense of purchasing one that also includes a lower
station. The Windshield Insert delivers all-weather visibility from the
upper helm, all the time."
